SAFTEC® is an endothermic chemical nucleating and blowing agent for the creation of fine foam structures in thermoplastic injection molding and extrusion applications. SAFTEC® Masterbatches for styrenics contain SAFTEC® powder and a special surfactant package based on a styrenic resin and an SEBS rubber, which improve melt tension and melt flow. It is commonly used in injection molding for the elimination of sink marks, reduction of part warpage, and for minor weight reduction. In extrusion operations, it is used for the creation of fine size cells in direct gas applications. All SAFTEC® powders are made with special surfactants, which result in:
- Improved bubble stability
- Slowed moisture absorption and diffusion rate
- Improved CO2 solubility rate
- Extended shelf life
- Excellent dispersion
Polystyrene (PS)
General-purpose Polystyrene (GPPS)- Excellent clarity, easy fabrication, thermal stability, relatively high modulus and low cost.
Main applications:
1. Medical ware
2. Dinnerware
3. Toys
4. Food packaging
5. Electronic packaging
Expandable Polystyrene (EPS)-Can be molded into shapes or expanded by heat.
Main applications:
1. Packaging
2. Filler material
Oriented Polystyrene Sheet (OPS)-Excellent lamination and printability.
Main applications:
1. Window Envelopes
2. Laminations
3. Printed applications
4. Food containers
HIGH IMPACT POLYSTYRENE (HIPS)-With the addition of polybutadiene rubber is specified for where more toughness is required.
Main applications:
1. Bowls, plates, and dairy containers
2. Disposable items
3. Durable goods
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
ACRYLONITRILE BUTADIENE STYRENE (ABS) is a copolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. ABS plastics generally possess medium strength and performance and medium cost. ABS is often used as the cost and performance dividing line between standard plastics (PVC, polyethylene, polystyrene, etc.) and engineering plastics (acrylic, nylon, acetal, etc.). ABS can be given a range of properties, depending on the ratio of the monomeric constituents and the molecular level connectivity. Typically, a styrene-acrylonitrile glassy phase is toughened by an amorphous butadiene/butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber phase. It is tough, hard and rigid. Good chemical resistance and dimensional stability; creep resistance, electroplatable, moderate strength, inexpensive .
Main applications:
1. Electronic housings
2. Auto parts
3. Consumer products
4. Pipe fittings, waste pipes
5. Computer housings (electroplated on the inside)
6. Automotive interior and exterior trim
Polyphenylene Oxide (PPO)
PPO thermoplastics offer properties between common thermoplastic polymers and higher engineering types, e.g. polycarbonates. Ease of electroplating, painting and welding add to a wide range of applications. PPO has exceptional moisture resistance, high dimensional and thermal stabilities, good flame resistance and high electrical resistance properties.
Main applications:
1. Water pumps
2. Automotive and electrical components
3. Power tool housing
4. Appliance casings
5. Foams in superior foam sandwich structures
