CONDENSATION POLYMERS
SAFOAM® is an endothermic chemical nucleating and blowing agent for the creation of a fine foam structure in thermoplastic injection molding and extrusion applications. SAFOAM® Masterbatches for condensation polymers contain SAFOAM® powder and a special surfactant package based on a styrenic resin and an EEA, designed for high temperature processing which improves melt tension and melt flow. It is commonly used in injection molding for the elimination of sink marks, reduction or part warpage, and for minor weight reduction. In extrusion operations, it is used for the creation of fine size cells in direct gas applications. All SAFOAM® powders are made with special surfactants, which result in:
- Improved bubble stability
- Slowed moisture absorption and diffusion rate
- Extended CO2 shelf life
- Excellent dispersion
Condensation Polymers are defined by others as polymerization by a repeated condensation process with elimination of simple molecules. The products of condensation polymerization reactions are condensation polymers. If a plastic is formed, the process is called polycondensation. Just as esters and amides are products of simple condensation reactions of monofunctional reactants, so polyesters and polyamides are the products of condensation polymerization of difunctional acids with difunctional alcohol or amines. Water is frequently the small molecule split off during condensation. Other common by-products of polymerization based on plastic are ammonia, hydrogen chloride, carbon dioxide, sodium bromide, nitrogen, and methanol.
POLYCARBONATE (PC):
Polycarbonated plastic is a lightweight, high-performance plastic. One of the most distinctive attributes of PC resin is its high impact strength. Few other engineering plastics can match its ability to stand up to hard knocks in very cold or very hot temperatures. Products made from PC resin are usually shatter-resistant and virtually unbreakable. Polycarbonate's versatility makes it excellent for creating functional, as well as aesthetically pleasing, products. It can be easily molded and dyed in hundreds of colors.
